About

Market data for people who test before they trade.

FinzData exists so researchers can backtest on data that reflects what was actually known at the time — and afford to do it.

What FinzData is

FinzData is a market data provider for quantitative researchers. It combines positioning data, point-in-time fundamentals, and survivorship-free price history behind one API key, with a client that mirrors the yfinance call pattern so existing research code keeps working.

The free tier covers COT positioning, SEC fundamentals as reported and ten years of daily prices. Paid plans add full history with delisted names, minute bars, point-in-time fundamentals and bulk Parquet downloads.

Data principles

Public records at source

Where data originates from public records — CFTC Commitments of Traders reports, SEC filings — FinzData republishes it faithfully and cites the source.

Licensed vendor data only

Vendor-sourced data is used only with redistribution rights. If a dataset cannot be licensed for redistribution, FinzData does not sell it.

Point-in-time by default

Fundamentals and estimates are stored as they were known on each date, so backtests do not see restated figures before they were public.

Delisted names kept

History includes delisted symbols. Survivorship bias is a data problem, and the fix belongs in the dataset, not in your code.

Corrections logged publicly

When source data is corrected, FinzData logs the change publicly so you can reproduce earlier results or update them deliberately.
